The Countdown continues …..

Adrienne has a countdown clock on her computer which counts down the days, hours and minutes until our flight departs.  Well it is now showing below 100 days to go !

We have made all our accommodation bookings – well all those that we plan to book ahead.  There are a few places where we may not get as far as planned or actually get further so we have options for these places and will decide when we get there.  With so many choices in the US, we found this worked well on our last trip there.
There still seems to be a lot of Disney research going on but I know we have other places booked – so here’s a sample (non Disney).

NatchezTwin Oaks Plantation, Natchez, Mississippi
After Memphis, Tennessee, we head to New Orleans, Louisiana however we decided to shorten the long trip a couple of hours before reaching New Orleans and Natchez was our choice. It is right on the Mississippi River – in fact depending on where you stay you can be in the state of Mississippi or the state of Louisiana.
This place is owned by the “Nigella Lawson of the Deep South” so hopefully the food is good.  I think Adrienne booked this one so she can sit on the porch when we arrive with her Mint Julep and act out her “Southern Belle” experience.

Chisos Mountains Lodge, Big Bend National Park, Texas

Big Bend

Further on in the trip we visit far west Texas and Big Bend National Park which runs along the mighty Rio Grande river and the border with Mexico.  Scenery in this area should be magnificent – “where night skies are dark as coal and rivers have carved temple-like canyons”.  Adrienne says I’ll have to get a big hat and cowboy boots to live out my John Wayne experience – Pilgrim – “but I won’t. I won’t. The hell I won’t !”

And our last night before our plane trip is that place I keep saying I don’t want to go back to – Las Vegas – but unfortunately it’s the only major stop near so many great places. So, our last stop…

VenetianThe Venetian, Las Vegas, Nevada

We can just stay inside the hotel and look at Venice the whole time, take a gondola ride, have coffee in the piazza…….
Unfortunately they have closed the Liberace Museum – (maybe the old lady attendants died ?) so that’s off our “must see list”.
We have booked to see a Cirque de Soliel show called “Love”, at the Mirage hotel nearby,  which is set to the music of the Beatles so that should be good.

And we know from a previous trip that the drive from Las Vegas back to Los Angeles has some spectacular scenery so we have a great last day to look forward to.

So plenty to whet the appetite ! Bye for now.
