Getting Away from it All

Some might say that going on holidays is a chance to “get away from it all”.  But when we go away, we “take it all with us” !

Not really us - but we might be getting close !

Not really us – but we might be getting close !

Here is a list of the “essential” items we are taking with us –

Liam is pretty straight forward – he will have his Ipod (assuming he doesn’t leave it in the car on the way to the airport like last trip!), and his Netbook computer.  Simon is filling a 500Gb portable hard drive with movies, tv shows, games etc so that should keep him occupied in the backseat each day and ready to access the free Wifi at each stop to ensure he can update his Facebook status regularly. He is also going to take my old camera to test out all the photography skills he has picked up during his course this year at school.  Oh … and his mobile phone of course !

Adrienne will have – her Ipod, her Iphone, her Ipad (where’s my Apple commission ?!), her wireless keyboard, the Tom Tom GPS and the video recorder.  The IThings are all full of “Apps” that she has used or will use for the trip including “Packing Pro” (her online packing list) ,  “Tripit” (records all our hotel and flight booking information), “Google Maps” ( for navigation) , “iExit” ( keeps track of every McDonalds, Taco Bell, Subway, gas station etc along ALL the US interstate highways) , “iBooks” (loaded up with several Lonely Planet guidebooks) and even Apps that will tell her the best ride to head for next in Disney World!

I have my Iphone, my laptop computer, my camera (including my SD card that will automatically upload my photos to my phone or laptop) and my new in-car video camera.  This trip, in addition to my blog, I will be able to give you a link to my “Skydrive” which will let you look at our photos as we go. AND !!! – in case anyone is having trouble sleeping – my in-car video will record all 7,500km of our trip so when we get back you will be able to spend weeks watching us drive across the USA ! (and based on our testing so far there will be hours of video of the floor of the car and the powerpoint while it charges !)

I’m beginning to think that between getting to all the places we want to see and keeping all our blogs or Facebook status up to date we may not actually have any time for a holiday !  Only kidding – we enjoy all the “geekiness” so hope you enjoy the results as they happen.

Only a month to go …… Oh … and we do have our normal luggage as well !
