For our anniversary each year we find “a little bolt hole somewhere” to have a few days to ourselves and “chill out” – well…. our definition of “chill out” !
And, compared to our normal holiday tours, it really is a “chill out” – but we still like to take in what’s on offer wherever we end up. And this year we chose Eagle View Escape – a property in the hills above Lake Lyell and the Cox River, not far west of Lithgow, just over the Blue Mountains. Lake Lyell was formed with the damming of the Cox River – only relatively recently in 1995 – and it is a very picturesque location.
It wasn’t originally planned that way but it turns out we were “treading in the footsteps of our ancestors” – my Mum’s maternal family line came from nearby Rydal and Adrienne’s “Clancy” side were from O’Connell not much further west.
Eagle View Escape is a great spot – we had a little self-contained cabin on the hill, with gas heater and spa, a beautiful bushland setting with views down the hill to the river and the hills in the distance. For our few days away, we utilised the little kitchenette and outdoor BBQ and stocked up with a selection of yummy goodies to eat and drink at our leisure. (There is a central “reception building” on the property with suites, a common room and meals are available if that’s more your preference).
Weather wasn’t great but we drove around the district a bit – Rydal, Sodwalls, Tarana, Oberon and O’Connell – walked around the property and part of the river when the rain stopped, took lots of photos, ate and drank and generally had a perfect break for a few days.
Here is a bit of a sample –
