Well, we have been home a week now, jet lag is still hanging on a little but otherwise we are back into our home and work routines.
The flight home was pretty normal – long and tiring – and we hit Sydney Airport at 05:00 last Saturday. Erin was very kind to be at the airport at that early hour to meet us and with a quick trip through immigration and customs we were home around 07:00.
Like all holidays, they go in a flash and all too fast. Luckily we have lots of photos and video to go through now so we can look back at our trip and enjoy it again.
You always get asked “what was the highlight” of the trip. Different parts of the trip were such a contrast – from the picture perfect day on the Jungfraujoch in Switzerland to the Dawn Service at Villers Bretennoux, from the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle to the haunting size of Dachau Concentration Camp –
“the” highlight in some ways is that this trip was probably not like other trips we have had before in that whilst we knew where we were going and what we were going to do, looking back there was a lot of which we could not know what to expect –
– like being 11,333 feet above sea level on the Jungfraujoch – and dizzy and breathless from the altitude
– like being gobsmacked by the sheer size of Dachau
– like being able to visit the graves of family, killed so far away from home, and a part of history
Other than perhaps the delay with our train from Munich, there were certainly no lowlights !!
What I can say without doubt is that our mission was a complete success, with all objectives met.
Now I’m just waiting to see where Adrienne has our next tour planned ! – a clear sign that we really enjoyed this one !
