Back to Business – in Business !

With the pleasant thoughts of a comfy Business Class seat waiting for us on our flight home, we had plenty of energy to expend on our last day of the tour.

But first off this morning we were catching up with “Aussie Family” for breakfast. Our great friend’s Gae & Greg have their son Blake and lovely (American) wife Rebecca, living and working in Dallas. We were able to see where they were living – quite close to Dallas Downtown – catch up with Rebecca before she headed for work and have a quick breakfast with Blake. It was so nice to see familiar faces ! After finding us the best coffee we’ve had all trip, we bid our farewells to Blake and were on our way.

No driving map today – although I suppose I could have mapped the trip from the hotel to the airport – or all the shopping malls ! – but no matter.

First we had a visit to Fort Worth to see the daily cattle drive show. The “Fort Worth Herd” presents a glimpse into the past and Fort Worth’s rich western heritage with the world’s only twice daily cattle drive ! In preserving its heritage as Cowtown, the City of Fort Worth has its own herd of 15 Texas Longhorns – one for each decade of their 150 year history. And Fort Worth is “where the west begins !”

Stay away from those horns !!

Imagine the size of the boots !

Imagine the size of the boots !

Adrienne had last minute shopping to deal with so there was lots to be done. And the rest of the day was shopping ! Adrienne had found a mall just north of the Fort Worth area – conveniently located near the airport ! – called Grapevine Mills. The whole mall is over 1,600,000 square feet in size ! And now I have square feet ! If I can’t sleep on the flight home it won’t be from lack of exhaustion !

After boosting the USA economy yet again, we braved the last of the flyovers, crossovers, underpasses, overpasses, expressways, tollways and roadworks and headed for the airport.

Well, we have come to the end of another tour !

And we have surpassed our previous driving record in totting up 6,013 miles (9,676 kms) for the trip, a bit over budget ! – must have been all Adrienne’s shopping detours !

We have had a great trip again, these states a lot different to past trips but interesting and enjoyable in their own way. A big part of the enjoyment of these trips is in having the most wonderful travelling companion, Adrienne, who is such a great planner and a mean navigator to boot ! Can’t wait for our next adventure together !!!

For now, we have covered 36 of the 50 US states in 7 visits. At this stage we have 3 more visits in the planning stages to cover the remaining states – but they might be  a few years away yet !

We are settled in the Qantas Business lounge at DFW airport getting ready for our long flight back home and reflecting on a fun and quirky tour of the Central South. Thanks to all who have been reading our blogs – I hope you enjoyed our tour too ! I find keeping the daily blog a great way of having a record of our tours as they happen so fast and I enjoy referring back to them once we are home and back to business….

Cheers, until we are next “Off On Tour”….
