We have a relatively short turnaround till our next holiday – next year’s trip is in May instead of our usual time later in the year – so time for an update on our plans !
Well, after 3 consecutive USA trips and a good number of extra states under our belts, next year we shift our touring attention to Europe and a whole new type of tour for us.
We are going River Cruising !
Can you believe it ? – no car !
And for our cruise we will be teaming up with our great friends –
Jo & Steve Miller,
Therese & Bob Morgan and
Gae & Greg Pearce –
to wreak havoc amongst fellow travellers with Evergreen Tours – “Splendours of Europe River Cruise” – cruising from Amsterdam to Budapest.
This trip has been in the planning for a number of years, a sort of “30th Anniversary” from when the girls met at playgroup when our kids were young – with everyone’s own travel plans we had to try to set aside a future date years ago and after cross-checking availability spreadsheets and earnest consideration of all the options, the final decisions have been made and cabins have been booked !
Take a look ……
Should be a hoot !!
For Adrienne and I, it will mostly be new ground – the only place we have visited previously along this cruise route is Nuremberg which we visited during our Europe Tour in 2011.
And it won’t exactly be “no car”. (Phew !)
In addition to the cruise, Adrienne and I have a side trip planned for a few days from Amsterdam before we join the others and start the cruise and then an extra week or so from Budapest at the end of the cruise – into Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland – before heading home.
There will be more details on those extra bits in a future update.
I have never been a big fan of doing “cruising holidays” – give me a car any day ! – so I think the river cruise is a bit of a compromise for me to see what it’s like. And with the extra travelling companions for us this time, it should make for a unique and memorable tour !
Looking at reviews of this particular cruise and the particular itinerary it seems there will be plenty of marvelous scenery to take in whilst we cruise as well as ample opportunity to get around at the locations we stop along the way. We shall just wait and see ! And of course we have our “extra bits” as well.
In the meantime, another tour to look forward to. And whilst there is not much in the way of day to day planning we can do for the cruise part, we still have lots to organise for the “before” and “after” sections. We have things started, of course, and will let you know as we progress .
For now, “Juuuuust sit right back ……………”
