Omaha, NE to Dallas, TX … and heading home

After another amazing tour of the USA, today started with our last few hours on the road before we start to make our way home.

So just a short drive today, back to our starting point of Omaha, with our connecting flight from Omaha to Dallas due to depart around 4pm. And still a few things to take in on our way.

We only had about 60 miles to cover today and not far away we stopped at the Strategic Air Command & Aerospace Museum. It is a huge structure containing various aircraft – essentially from historic eras from WWII – including the planes used in the atomic bombings, during the cold war and beyond. As part of the 50 year moon landing anniversary, they also had a special exhibition covering the space program during those years.

Today, we also happen to coincide with the anniversary of “9/11” so wherever we went, all the flags were flying at half mast.

We had rain when we woke this morning but as we had some final packing to get organised, the worst of it had passed by the time we left. However as we drove, we could see the storms to the south east – one thing with the wide open countryside, you can see for miles !

With a little time up our sleeve, Adrienne had pinpointed a last “Big Thing” – Nebraska Crossing Outlets – last shopping ! Then, after some final cosmetics, we made our way along I80 for the last section to Omaha.

Our final stop was the Lewis & Clark National Trail headquarters and Bob Keary pedestrian bridge over the Missouri River – not far from the airport. We walked up onto the bridge as you are standing between Nebraska & Iowa in the middle of the bridge – the border between the states is in the middle of the river. So our loop was complete !

With that, it was off to the airport. Well, not our longest trip – 5,521 miles in all – but we certainly covered a lot of ground. These were probably states that we would not see again but I think we had a few enjoyable surprises along the way. It was a really fun tour and will hold a lot special memories of the experiences we had along the way.

Not many states left now – and next tour should see us finish the “Lower 48”. And for anyone thinking that’s the end of the corn – think again 🤣🤣 – Thanks for following along !
