An Old Favourite – Eventually !

We really enjoy the Hunter Valley region and have found a host of great places to stay on our quick tours there. One in particular at beautiful Wollombi where we have had a couple of stays previously, had a particularly tough summer with the effects of the extended bushfire season in NSW. So when things got back to normal in January (ha ! – little did we know ! 😳) they came up with a great offer to entice visitors back.

So we jumped in and booked a stay over Easter at Somewhere Unique. Then, of course, the pandemic hit and all NSW regional travel was banned ! No Easter tour for us. And more tough times for them ! They were so understanding with the situation and had no hesitation in letting us re-schedule – which we did as our wedding anniversary tour in early July.

It is such a relaxing place to stay ! Set amongst beautiful bushland, there are two retreats – Lowanna and Allawah. We had stayed in each previously and this time we stayed in Allawah again. You can read about the accommodation in my post from our last stay – and it was just as good as we remembered.

We sat on the verandah and listened to the birds, walked along the winding dirt roads nearby, walked into Wollombi Village for coffee and a stroll through the shops and stocked up on a nice Semillon from Noyce Bros Wine.

We celebrated our anniversary with a lovely lunch at Molines Bistro which was just fantastic – beautiful food and wine with a great location and view ! For lunch another day we tried Matilda Bay Brewhouse at Hunter Valley Resort – great beer and the food was pretty good as well !

Over the weekend, the area was pretty busy with all the shops coping with reduced capacities – suitably socially distanced of course ! Thankfully we had made our lunch bookings well in advance and otherwise just catered for ourselves at our retreat.

Somewhere Unique can arrange food for you, ready and delivered to your retreat when you arrive so you can enjoy as it suits you. The quality of the meals is excellent and the quantities generous – all sourced from local businesses – from full breakfasts of bacon, eggs, tomatoes and mushrooms, to BBQ packs of prime Scotch Fillet, homemade Potato & Leek soup and vast antipasto platter.

All too soon it was time to head home – but I suspect it won’t be our last visit to Somewhere Unique !!
