Our last Canadian stop ….
We had a sleep in this morning as the clouds had arrived and there was a little drizzle around. We were gaining an hour with a time zone change and if the weather wasn’t going to cooperate then we’d just be driving straight through to Kamloops.
And so it turned out ! The rain pretty much got heavier and persistent for much of the morning and any mountains were shrouded in fog and cloud. There was also quite a bit of roadwork which meant it was a bit stop start.
Around lunchtime it looked like it might clear a little but that soon changed when we hit a storm and had quite heavy rain.
We reached Clearwater and as there was a visitor centre we decided to stop and have a snack and stretch our legs. We also needed a fuel fill up and as we left the storm passed.
It remained cloudy with a few spots of rain on and off all the way to Kamloops. There was a shopping mall right next door to the hotel so we had some retail therapy to stretch our legs again before checking in.
Dinner was at nearby On the Rocks Pub & Grill – good pub food and drinks.
Forecast is not great for the last couple of days of driving back to Seattle but we have been spoilt so we’ll take it as it comes from here.

Another driving day as we say goodbye to Canada.
The changing weather had us starting off in sunshine. Again there was quite a bit of roadwork and unfortunately it actually cut off access to an area we had hoped to visit and do a bit of walking.
The scenery changed from mainly farmland back to forested mountains again as we got closer to the US border and we came back into the Cascade Mountains.
The weather then deteriorated as we got to the border – which was an easy crossing again – and certainly “wet weather Washington” lived up to its reputation.
The bad weather meant that more retail therapy was the only way we would get any exercise for the day 😂
Our destination was Edmonds which is north of Seattle on the shores of Puget Sound. We chose it as it is a ferry port and our plans for our last travelling day are to get the ferry across the sound and visit the northern section of Olympic National Park.
Our hotel was really across the road from the ferry terminal and we wandered down the street to Arnie’s seafood restaurant which overlooked the marina & ferry wharf. Another nice meal – the early bird dinner special – we had seafood chowder for starters, Adrienne had the signature salmon and I had an excellent seafood pasta. Dessert was included so Adrienne had chocolate mousse & I had ( a mouthful) of key lime pie.
Back at our hotel we did the majority of our repacking in anticipation of our last day.
